Size guide
Measure something you own
Every number here is the garment measured flat, in centimetres — not a body chart. Find a piece in your wardrobe that fits the way you want ours to, lay it out, and compare. It takes four minutes and it is far more reliable than a letter on a label.
How to measure
Lay it flat, do not stretch it
Take something you already wear and like, button it, and press it flat on a table. Every number on this page was taken the same way, so the two are comparable.
Chest, armpit to armpit
Measure straight across from one underarm seam to the other, then double it. That is the figure in the chest column.
Shoulder, seam to seam
Across the back, from the top of one shoulder seam to the other. This is the measurement that decides whether a coat fits — you can alter a sleeve, you cannot alter a shoulder.
Sleeve, from the shoulder seam
Down the outside of the arm to the cuff. On a dropped shoulder, measure from where the seam actually sits rather than from your shoulder.
Outerwear, knitwear and shirting
Garment measured flat, in centimetres. Chest is doubled to give the full circumference.

The Saltholm is labelled in inch waist. 12oz denim with 2% elastane — it gives about 2cm in the first week and stays there.

Fit, piece by piece
- Halden Wool Overcoat
- Cut over a jacket. Take your usual size — sizing down loses the shoulder before it loses the volume.
- Sonder Longline Coat
- Unlined and generous. Most people are happier one size down than in the Halden.
- Linden Relaxed Blazer
- Boxy through the body, narrow in the sleeve. If you are between sizes, go up.
- Stille Chunky Knit
- Five-gauge and deliberately oversized. Stops at L because the block does not grade past it.
- Orkney Cable Knit
- Hand-linked shoulder, so it sits closer than the Stille. True to size.
- Mistral Merino Cardigan
- Extra-fine merino, close-fitting. Size up if you want to wear it over a shirt.
- Norrland Linen Shirt
- Washed linen at 165gsm. It relaxes about a centimetre through the body and does not shrink further.
- Atlas Indigo Shirt
- Piece-dyed, so it loses a little indigo and a little length in the first three washes. Cut with that allowed for.
- Vega Wide-Leg Trouser
- Sits at the natural waist, which is higher than most. Measure the waist rather than guessing from another brand.
- Saltholm Straight Denim
- Rigid at first. Buy the size that fastens without a gap and give it a week.
